Filigree engagement rings are becoming more and more popular as new lovers look for unique choices when choosing their rings. Filigree rings refer to those that have ornate, interlacing designs carved or etched into the metal band. They usually have some sort of weaving pattern that makes its way around the ring, but can also be an elaborate setting holding the central stone. The designs vary significantly, but can be anywhere from simple designs, to beautifully intricate patterns. Although there are still filigree rings being made in modern times, they were even more common in the past, which is why so many antique rings are made using the filigree style.
Types of Filigree rings
There is a huge variety in the different styles of filigree engagement rings. They tend to have fairly thick bands, because thin bands don´t have much space for designs. They also tend to be made with silver, which are easier to manipulate than gold. Nevertheless, gold filigree can also be found.
Filigree rings can be broken down into two main categories, simple and complex. A simple filigree ring is one where only a small part of the ring has been etched or carved. This is usually the setting that holds the center stone, giving the ring a more intricate look.
If the entire ring is covered in filigree, this is considered a complex filigree ring. These may have one repeating pattern that covers the metal band, or can be even more intricate with different patterns found on different parts of the band, even including a complex setting covering the central stone.
You can also find two-toned/multi-toned filigree rings, that are made with two or more different contrasting metals (ex white gold/yellow gold). Both metals are carved or etched, making a really unique option for an engagement ring.
Choosing a filigree ring
Selecting a filigree ring can be a difficult choice. There are many unique designs available, and can be found both with and without gems. To make your selection, you should try to find your favorite jeweler, and find the pattern that you like. For a truly unique ring, you can have a jeweler custom design your ring, perhaps using a diamond that has been passed down through the generations.
There are certain countries in the world that specialize in filigree jewelry, and if you have the opportunity to visit one of these countries, it could make the perfect unique engagement ring. For example, certain regions of Peru are known for their amazing filigree metal work. Although many designs are available, they have certain filigree designs relating to their rich cultural history. Such an engagement ring would be a real treasure for any woman.
The cost of the ring will be based on the size and quality of the stone, the type of metal used, and of course, how intricate and unique the design is. If the stone is not that important to you, and you don´t mind a smaller diamond or perhaps cubic zirconia, you should be able to get a very special, very intricate ring.
Why choose filigree engagement ring?
This would make the perfect ring for anyone who wants something a little different, something flashy, and something that can have a lot of meaning. It is not good for someone who wants something plain.
